The Open Door Beyond

Last night was really an adventure! Somewhere around midnight I wandered into Mom and Dad's bedroom. All was dark and quiet. Mom and Wishbone were asleep. Dad was upstairs.

Guess what? Would you believe their door to the outside deck was WIDE open? I have not been allowed outside since we moved here, though I was at our old house. It was great fun to jump the fence and go exploring!

Of course nobody heard me creep out the door. After I gave the yard a thorough investigation--so many new smells!--one quick leap took me over the fence and next door.

I'm afraid when I'm outside (but only a little! I am, after all, a cheetah!) but can't resist the curiosity of what might be there. This morning, I could hear Mom calling me and I think she was upset. It was very dark and she was carrying a flashlight.

I ran right past the front door and hid again. She got mad then and told me, "Cheetah, inside!" but I ran in front of her and jumped up on the fence.

That dad-gum dog was in the backyard and I don't think he knew it was me. He started barking and jumping up.Like he could jump six feet like I can! I hissed really loud to tell him to bug off but he didn't go. Mom came around the back and chased that naughty dog inside then came back to get me. I wouldn't let her pick me up. No way.

I ran to the sliding door but that stupid dog started barking again so I jumped off the deck. Who knows what that crazy beast would do? Mom was really irritated then! She left the slider open and held on to the dog so I could come in unmolested as a cat of my dignity should.

Of course, Wishbone chased me right away, but in the house I know that he's no threat to me so I just flopped down on the floor to rest from my night's excursions.

I don't get what Mom was so upset about. You'd have thought I ran away forever rather than just exploring. I hope she falls asleep again after a night time outside trip for Wishbone. Ya know, sometimes that dog comes in handy......

The Egret Story

When I was just a little cheetah and we all still lived in Florida, one day a huge flock of white birds with very long beaks landed in our back yard. I had been laying on the back porch, but when the birds came, I ran in the house to hide.

My dad, picked me up and carried me into Mom's office. He and I very stealthily peeked over the edge of the window sill to watch the birds that had all moved to the front yard. Dad whispered to me about the birds and helped me not to be scared. He's a very good dad and very gentle. Mom says we have the same color hair.

Now when I see birds I like to just watch them. I like to run from window to window to see where they are going and what they are doing. Sometimes I make chirping noises and twitch my tale because I am excited.

Mom and Dad call me the baby. What does that mean anyway? I am a CHEETAH!

The Cheetah Chronicles

I guess for my first post, I should include a picture of myself as a kitten. Poppy is the cat on top and I'm the cat on the bottom--in more ways than one. But I'm proud to say that I'm bigger than she is now. I weigh 12 pounds and she only weighs 9.

I was born December, 2004 in Spring Lake, Michigan to Phoenix and Marley. Phoenix has bonus toes that I inherited from him. When I was eight weeks old, Alicia packed me into a little crate and I flew on an airplane to Florida. I didn't like it much and I was very upset when I got to West Palm Beach, but Dad (Larry) and Mom (Susie) have loved me very much right from the beginning.

Poppy was mad at everybody for a very long time--especially me. But Mom told me that when I was gone a few days to the hospital, Poppy kept wandering around the house looking for me. I think that secretly she loves me.

Now I live in Austin, Texas. Mom and Dad said they right from the beginning they considered naming me "Sacajawea" because of how many adventures I've already been on. Mom wanted to name me Silverbell but they agreed that I am much more a Cheetah.

I've many more stories to tell if you want to check back and read them.
